![]() There are probably as many different reasons that individuals volunteer for anything as here are volunteer's and things to volunteer for. For the most part I honestly believe that people volunteer for anything out of an honest feeling of being able to contribute to the good of the groups and the personal satisfaction and sense of pride that they feel within themselves from a job well done that benefits the majority of the group. And these people are usually the backbone of the group. In my humble opinion (IMHO), the 50+ Friends Club is indeed blessed to have such a wealth of volunteers who willingly give so much of themselves and ask for so little in return. And I am sure that there are some of us have a tendency to take the work these volunteers do for granted. With the click of a bookmark we access our 50+ Friends Club Home Page. From there we simply click on a particular section that might be of interest to us at that time and sure enough, as if by magic, 98 times out of a 100 the section we are interested in appears on our monitor. I doubt that many members of the Club actually realize the amount of hard work and effort each of the various editors put into the section(s) of our home page that they are responsible for. Responsible because each and everyone of them volunteered for their respective jobs. And what a grand job they are doing. Like a lot of other things in our life, we often times take for granted those things that work well and perform up to or beyond our expectations. Seems like that is human nature at work. It is usually only when they don't work as we feel they should that they get our immediate attention. Let your car fail to start at any given point during the day and it has 100% of your attention (I think most of us has been there and done that). Or let the "message board" be down on our home page and see how fast someone's e-mail box fills up. I'd like to make a suggestion if you please. The next time you check our home page and visit a particular section that you really enjoy, how about taking the time to e-mail the editor of that section and thank them for the job they have done and are continuing to do. All of us like to know that our efforts are appreciated and I am sure that each of our editors would also like to know it. I know it's real easy to tell them on the chat lines how much you appreciate their work, and there is nothing wrong with that either, but the fact that you would take the time to send them e-mail letting them know how much you appreciate their efforts would mean a lot to them. Please note: I am not an editor and my contribution to our home page is minimal at this point and time, and that is the way I like it. So please do not send me any thanks via e-mail. Instead send it to the people who work so hard to make your home page the very best on the internet (IMHO). My thanks to all of you and God bless. Buck |
