PROPOSED MOTTO
Webster defines "motto" as (1) a sentence, phrase, or word inscribed on something as appropriate to or indicative of its character or use (2) a short expression of a guiding principle. The following was submitted by one of our members.
"Just a thought ..... In reading the posts that everyone has been sending to Gypsy on the homepage, and in both 50+ chat rooms, I am moved by her very own words in her Bio ...... .. That our group will grow in strength and numbers and that the good of what we are together will spread in ever increasing circles, out into all the world.-forever."
The member also said that it this were to be used as a motto for this loving
group of people it would make a fine tribute to a person we have all come to
care a great deal for. Truly this situation makes those words speak for
themselves. Editors note: I couldn't agree more with the member who submitted
this and would be most interested in hearing for all of you with respect to this
quote from Gypsy's Bio being our motto. Do let know your feelings on this. You
can contact me.
HOME PAGE RESOURCES GROUP NEEDED
I am sure that all of you are aware of the outstanding job that Bill Dawes is doing with our home page and all of the various items associated with it. We would not be where we are today without his generous gift of talent, time and storage space. His storage space is very close to his allowable 3 megabytes. We are also using more and more of his time for our benefit and the more time he devotes to us the less time he has for his business. The time has come for those of us who have unused Home Page space from your ISP to help Bill help us. We need volunteers with megs to spare on their servers to take over some of the time and volume required.
Do you have unused Home Page space which could accommodate our Cookbook, Biography Archives or a backup for the main page itself?
The following information was provided by Bill Dawes.
Hello gang! I need help from some of you!
1. Do you have unused Home Page space from your ISP? I've used up 2.5 of the 3 megs at Infinet; if you know or can learn to FTP, you could move some of this stuff to your server and we could link to it from our Main Page. And we may need a backup for the main page itself some day!
2. Can you do HTML tagging? Some highly valued 50+ contributors (I won't mention any names here, but a certain person who tends to write long newsletters and who can't learn tagging) could use a tagger with an hour to spare to tag up his great contributions to our community....
3 . Do you scan? I've had several people who want to contribute to the Logo contest, and others who'd like their portraits scanned (also hopefully cropped to reasonable size and palettes reduced with Adobe or Paint Shop Pro) for our 50+ pages...
4. I'd like to start collecting a page of links for our 50+ home pages. (Yeah, I know, here I am looking for MORE work... ) Those of you who DON'T HAVE home pages should look into the free services at Tripo
and Lookup!
SUPPORT GROUP FOR EMOTIONALLY, MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY ABUSED
I am starting a support group for the emotionally, mentally and physically abused so as to deal with it and heat the hurt. We will have no more than 10 to a group and can have as many groups as we need, at available times for interested persons.
There will be a private room for each group. Participants may select a pseudo, and all info will be confidential and people will remain anonymous to each other. Only I will know who they are, and their identity is very safe with me. If they want to get in touch with another , they can do it thru me.
I will give all who participate my phone number and they may call me at anytime of night or day, because if they need help I will be available, for safety sake.
Anyone who participates will be asked not to give the private room location to anyone else because we do not want or need outsiders and curiosity seekers. Those interested can Email me as to the best time, or desired times and I will set up groups accordingly.
My credentials are a licensed Therapist, licensed Social Worker, extensive study in workshops and at Esalen in California, Associate Degree in mental health and retardation, and an abused person myself who has undergone extensive therapy for my own abuse.
ABUSE is very damaging and we must deal with it, no matter how painful to heal. I will not put anyone in jeopardy, and will not let anyone fall apart that I can't put back together. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know by Email. Others in our 50+ chat rooms will not know about this as everything connected with it will be set up through Email. Only this announcement and occasional notices in our newsletters will be public.

SUPPORT GROUP FOR CAREGIVERS
My name is Joyce. You all know me as "jbsun" and many of you know that I am a widow. My husband passed away about 14 months ago with brain cancer, During the time I was his main caregiver (about a year) many things happened that Iwas totally unprepared for and didn't know how to handle them. With some of them, I did okay, but some I know could have been handled much better for both of us if I could have talked to someone who had been through the ups and downs of handling a person with brain cancer.
Much of what I know now, l learned too late and if I can be of support to anyone else who has a family member with this devastating disease (or for that matter, any terminal illness), I wish to do so.
I have talked with others since my husband passed away, and found that
many of the things we experienced are common, and they too wish they could
have talked to someone who had been through it.

AVIATION GROUP
The Aviation Group is off to a slow start. We seem to have had some difficulty formatting in the chat room. I have suggested another try this Thursday, April 18 at 9:00 PM EST. In light of the recent tragedy in Wyoming, we have proposed a discussion of the advisability of allowing children to fly
planes.
For those of you who are not pilots, or who came to aviation as adults, the topic is not so cut and dried as it may seem. Many airline and military pilots began flying at very young ages. The practice of starting young is well established in aviation, and there is room for all shades of opinion on the matter.
The name of the aviation chat room is 50+ Flyers Chat on NetCentral. Click to go there, fix your handle, and bookmark it for later!
I hope that you will join us. Although the suggested topic for Thursday is a serious one, the main purpose of the Aviation Chat is to provide fun and enjoyment for those of us who would like to do some hangar flying without boring the socks off the rest of the folks.

TROJAN HORSE DANGER WARNING
I recently received the following letter from the president of my local server:
There is a Trojan horse version of PKZip being disseminated on the Internet. It claims to be version 3.0 of PKZip.03
According to PKWARE, makers of PKZTP, the only released versions of PKZIP are:
1. 10, 1.93, 2.04c, 2.04e and 2,04g.
All other versions currently circulating on the Internet are suspect and should not be used.
The suspect programs are
PKZ300B.EXE, PKZ300B.ZIP, P[KZIP30O.ZIP, PKZTP3..EXE, etc.
If you download one of these programs and run it, the program will do damage to the information on your hard disk.

PUT YOUR FACE IN A MUG FILE!
Editors note: The following information was provided by Bill Dawes and can also be found on our Horne Page. A mug file! Put your own face in! At lease two members have succeeded in getting small GIF's of themselves for postings. We're working on a Mug File FAQ to help others get this nice feature.
Basically, one needs to:
1 .Get their picture scanned into a common format ... JPG is best, most graphics programs will also handle GIF or TIF.
2. Crop it down to a reasonable size, about 50 x 70 pixels will usually be less than 5K bytes, which should load in 5 seconds or less on a 14Kbps modem. It's a good idea to reduce the palette to 50 colors or less, or the browser may dither the colors strangely. You may use Adobe Photoshop, or for the PC the $69 shareware Paint Shop Pro.
3. Get it posted on some 24 hour server. Your own server may allow this. I can post it here on my server... or you may use a free service, like Lookup or Triijo These two will also let you post Home Pages, FREE!
UNFOUNDED RUMORS ABOUND...
There is absolutely no truth to the rumor that aliens have taken over the 50+ Cookbook ...... or that the Cookbook is "done" (it may be a little rare but, certainly, not done!)
Actually the Cookbook is just in its infancy stage, and we need your help for it to grow as it should. Take a look at us, or a second look, whatever the case may be!
The What's New page will keep you up-to-date on additions during the last IO days or so. The How To Participate page lets you know how to submit or download a recipe. {And we would like recipes from as many of you as possible! If you have questions about cooking or recipes in general, check out the FAQ page. If the answer isn't there, just email Carole in Upstate NY for assistance.
You'll find all sort of odds and ends on the Tid Bits page. Even a little laughter! And within the Tid Bit page there's a bulletin board At the Kitchen Table where you can share with the rest of us. Leave your mark for future generations! And before you go, PLEASE, sign the Guest Register! Let us know what you liked and what you didn't. Share any ideas and suggestions you may have.

FUN PLACE TO VISIT
Carole from Upstate NY.ran across "The Unofficial Smileys Dictionary" site recently and thought our members might like to visit there when then need a smile or two. The address is:

REGIQNAL AND ZONE COORDINATORS
I would like to suggest that all Regional and Zone Coordinators consider setting up a private chat room where you could come together at various pre-set times and discuss how each of you might assist all members in your areas in whatever ways that might be appropriate. I am sure that you all realize that we are here to serve the members. I would suggest that you contact each other by Email to see if this is a workable idea.
THANKS TO ALL
I want to express my personal thanks to all who submitted articles for this issue of our newsletter. Your caring and sharing with other members is what our group is all about.
I would also like to encourage any and all of you to submit articles for future issues of the newsletter.
Thanks again to Bill Dawes for providing us with "Bucks Board". It has meant a lot to many of us since it was made available.
Until next time we meet and chat in either of the 50+ chat lines, "Good night and God Bless!
