STATEMENT OF INTENT OF NEWSLETTERS
The purpose of these newsletters, as I saw it, was to inform and unite all members in friendship toward common goals that many of you had expressed an interest in.
They were never intended to he a forum for any individual, or group of individuals, to use to forward their own personal political agenda. nor were they intended to express my own personal political points of view. I never felt that the newsletters should be used to express either "pro" or "anti" government opinions. That can beat be done an the chat line, not in your newsletters. Obviously there are those who disagree with me on this as there will be on anything.
It was not my intention that the newsletters be a place to advertise or sell things. There are other places that this can best be accomplished. There are also those who disagree with me on that. Honest differences of opinion are what makes the world go round. Please note the key word which is "honest".
THIS IS MY LAST NEWSLETTER
Over the past several days I, and others, have been the subject of some public
"bashing" on the 50+ open chat line. What bothers me most about this it that it
seemed to aim itself at alienating members of the group from the group. If that was
not the intent then it was at least, in part, the and result in some instances. I
refuse to stay in any position where personal public postings about me are used to
tear at the fabric of Friends of 50 Plus.
Also, I have felt that my hands were somewhat tied with respect to responding to
those "bashings" since I might be perceived as somehow expressing the opinions of
the group instead of my own personal opinion. Since I will no longer be connected
with the newsletter, or Friends of 50 Plus in any position other than just a member,
I will no longer have this problem and can meet what I perceive to be "bashings"
head on and in whatever forum an individual might choose to post them. Freedom of
speech is great and is, and should be, a two way street. I plan on driving down that
street again,
Friends of 50 Plus has come a long way thanks to the efforts of each of you, and
will go a long way further. It is a great organizations with lots of terrific
members and I am sure it will do great things.
I know there are those in your midst who will be glad to stop forward and take up
the newsletters for you. Whoever that may turn out to be do give them the same
support you have always given me. It counted for a lot and was appreciated very
much. If you will allow me I would suggest that BLAZE be approached to see if she
would be willing to take over the newsletters. I have not Discussed this with her
but do know that she has great experience in this field and I believe she would
serve you in an exceptional manner.
SECOND 50 PLUS CHAT LINE
For those of you who may not realize it, there is now a second 50+ chat line. It
offers very fast speed of postings and responses. What some feel to be a drawback to
this second chat line is that you cannot display pictures there. Considering the
speed it offers this does not seem like a problem to me but I'm sure each of you had
your own opinion about that.
Bill Dawes has now created a link to this new location on our home page. I encourage
each of you to visit this now site and bookmark it for future reference. There are a
couple of other good things about this new chat line. You can probably use your old
handle in there, everyone who enters has their server's number displayed after their
handle, and there is an extra feature which will not allow "nasty" words to appear.
Please note that in no way am I suggesting or recommending that you abandon WBS 50+
chat line. I do recommend you consider this as an alternative, especially when WBS
gets bogged down as it does from time to time.
ITEMS COVERED IN NEWSLETTER 6
Items covered in newsletter 6, such as Friends of 50 Plus Home Page, Friends of 50
Plus Logo Contest, Grief Counseling Support Group, Alzheimer's and Related
Dementias Support Group, etc., are still current.
I understand there should be news about Friends of 50 Plus Cookbook within the week.
Many members have expressed interest in the Single 50 Plus Group and I shall contact
each of them with some suggestions pertaining to that group.
There was very limited response with respect to Birthdays, Anniversaries and Special
Events and Holidays.
There was little or no response to a Poets Forum.
FRIENDS OF 50 PLUS MASTER LIST OF MEMBERS
In letter 6 I indicated that as soon as I had received all Email on changes to
handles I would prepare an updated Master List of Members. To date I have only
received 56 responses out of 213 members. As a results a new list has not yet been
prepared. I will be happy to provide what information I do have to whoever you
select to keep this listing. At this point and time please do not send any more
information on changes to me. Thanks.
FRIENDS OF 50 PLUS AVIATION GROUP
You now have a Aviation Group. For the time being NEWT is the Lead Pilot of this
group but NEWT wants to put the position of Lead Pilot up for grabs when a few more
individuals join this group. They have lots of plans and anyone interested in
joining that group should contact NEWT, Please refer to your Master List of Members
for NEWT's Email address.
HUMOR TIME
The following were submitted by our friend and member, SINC. Thanks SINC, as least
one of these should put a smile on some member's face.
YOU KNOW YOUR HOOKED ON THE NET WHEN -
when your constantly yelling at your spouse for using the phone for stupid things .... like talking.
when everyone you know asks why your phone is always busy .... and you're seriously considering getting a second line.
when you sit down at the computer right after dinner and your spouse says "See you in the morning."
when the kids start referring to you at "that person in front of the monitor."
when all your friends have an _AT_ in their names,
when you buy a laptop so you can surf while sitting on the can.
when you think more about being on line than you do about sex .... and to heighten the sensation you install a mirror over your PC.
