Newsletter #3

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR MAKING IT HAPPEN
Once again my sincere thanks to each of you in the group for making all of this happen. I just had an idea (one which many of you no doubt had from time to time). Each of you made that idea a reality.
Hard to believe our membership stands at "90 plus" and growing. And all of this in just over two weeks. That's truly amazing.

KEEP HELPING ME TO HELP YOU
I would again like to make a request of each of you which ill make it much easier to maintain records for our group. And as you are all aware of, good records keeping is the key to success of any organization.
     1. It will be very helpful if each of you acknowledge receipt of Email from anyone and everyone else in the group. Just a simple "got your message about ________________" would do nicely. The obvious exception to this is that it is not necessary (or wise) to acknowledge an acknowledgement. (*SMILE*)
     2. Please do not use the "REPLY" feature for acknowledgments since it repeats the entire original message back over again. Instead, if you would use the '"NEW MESSAGE" feature it would really make it easier for the receiving party. Thanks.,
     3. Please include the following items at the end of all messages to group members, whether it be your original message or an acknowledgment of a message.

      Your handle
      Your name
Your location (city, state or province and country)
Your assistance in this is very much appreciated and will make record keeping so much easier for all involved at any level.

VOLUNTEERS
Many of you stepped right up front and volunteered your time, energy and efforts for various group efforts.
There is still lots of things for others in our group who have the time, energy and desire to volunteer for such things as Regional or Zone Coordinator, keeping a chapter of our Email Cook Book, preparation of Regional and/or Zone Newsletters, etc.
If you would like to undertake any of these, or other positions, please don't be bashful about expressing your interest in them.

COORDINATORS
Thanks to each of you who came forward and volunteered for the positions of Regional and Zone Coordinators. Those brave souls are shown below.

  • LADYNET - Regional Coordinator for Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and New Mexico.
  • TUBBY - Regional Coordinator for Australia.
  • LOPPAN  - Regional Coordinator for Sweden.
  • BRIAN - Regional Coordinator for United Kingdom
  • BELLE STAR - Zone Coordinator for Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas
  • JUDY IN MONTANA  - Zone Coordinator for Western area of Montana

Any member who would like to ba a Regional or Zone Coordinator for other areas not covered above please Email me info on Region or Zone you would like to coordinate.

EMAIL COOK BOOK
IRENE IN PARIS, TEXAS  has volunteered to keep the following chapters of our cook book.
Soups
Poultry
Salads
Pasta & Rice
Pies & Pastries
Cakes
Cookies
Thanks much IRENE for accepting such a big task.
CAROLE has volunteered to keep following chapter.
Candy
Thanks to you CAROLE.
SYLVIA has volunteered to keep a chapter of our cook book and is right now in the process of deciding which chapter she likes best. Thanks to you SYLVIA.
GOOD GIRL   has volunteered to keep the following chapter.
Meat (including hunting type - deer, turkey, etc)
Thanks to you GOOD GIRL.

SUGGESTIONS FOR COOK BOOK
TUBBY made the suggestion that we have an INTERNATIONAL RECIPES section of our cook book. Sounds like a great idea to me. Any volunteer(s) to keep this chapter of the cook book? DOOLEY has volunteered to send in some outstanding Ukrainian recipes. Way to go DOOLEY!

TRAVEL TIPS
Several of our members have come forward and offered to provide travel tips to members who might be visiting their areas as shown below:
JEANNE, JUNEAU, ALASKA, can provide tips on individualized Alaskan tours originating out of Juneau.
GOOD GIRL  will provide information about the state of Arkansas. GOOD GIRL knows the state very well and is willing to share her knowledge with any of you who are interested.
RENE lives in western Montana, not far from Flathead Lake, Glacier Park, and the Bison Range. RENE will gladly share knowledge with any of you who may have an interest in this area.
My thanks to each and everyone of you who stepped forward to offer assistance to our members who might be traveling in your areas. It should be a lot easier now for others to come forward and offer to share their knowledge of their areas with us.

MEMBERS SUGGESTIONS

IDENTIFYING GROUP MEMBERS ON 50+ CHAT LINE
Several of you have suggested that it would great if there were some way to show that we belong to "50+ Chat Line Friendship Group" in our handles while on line chatting. I'm sure that some of you should have terrific ideas on this. For the time being I have changed my handle to show "BUCK _AT_ COOS BAY, OR(50+CLFG)". I know this is not the best solution and we should get some really great ideas in from you members. lets hear them.

ZONE AND REGIONAL EMAIL NEWSLETTERS
There were lots of constructive suggestions about newsletters. Most were that each ZONE have it's own newsletter, directed towards members of that ZONE. They could cover items like member activities, "face-to-face" meetings within the ZONE, scheduled attractions in the ZONE, etc. How often these Email newsletters were sent out would be up to the members of that ZONE.
REGIONS might consider selecting the most interesting of articles from each ZONES newsletter and combing them into a REGION Newsletter which could be shared with all ZONES in that REGION (and with other REGIONS by request).
These both sound like great suggestions. All that is needed to get them off the ground is individuals in each ZONE and REGION who have the time, the energy and the willingness to give to it. And it really doesn't take that much time and energyy. Take me for instance, I'm about as lazy as the day is long but still have to get up once and awhile and get something done somehow. *GRIN*

LIST OF "ADS" AT END OF EACH NEWSLETTER
Suggestions have been made that a list of "ADS" might be placed at the end of each ZONE Newsletter. As I see it if this idea is adopted it should not include any commercial "ADS" of any type. Commercial "ADS" just wouldn't fit in with the spirit of the group.

BULLETIN BOARD/WEB PAGE
Lots of suggestions with respect to both of these items. Both are excellent suggestions but I am personally not sure how this might come about. I know there are members of our group who have expertise in these areas and perhaps they might offer suggestions on how this dream might become a reality. My knowledge with respect to both Bulletin Boards and Web Pages is to small to be measured.

LISTING OF MEMBERS WEB PAGE SITES
Suggestions have been made that we do a listing of web sites that any of our members are running (non-commercial). Sounds like it would be fun.
WESTD is the first one to offer to list their web site. All of the information referring to the "Web Witch" is WESTD's. All of the other information was done by the students at the school and it is very interesting. I have visited this site and enjoyed it greatly. You can also Email letters to students who constructed a particular page. I recommend you try and visit this site. It is well done and informative.

INTERNET GAMING ZONE
BELLE STAR and her husband, ED, have some great information pertaining to the INTERNET GAMING ZONE. For those of you who enjoy playing great games, this is a fun place to visit. And in keeping with the spirit of the group it's all for free.

BIOS OF GROUP MEMBERS
Several members have suggested that those of us who are willing to do so (I personally have no objection to submitting mine) prepared and Email in BIOS which could contain as little or as much information as a member desired. Or for that matter no information. Some items tossed around for consideration were:

  • Marital status, number of children, grandchildren
  • Home Town, State or Province and Country
  • Occupation (previous if retired)
  • Hobbies or particular areas of interest
  • Participation in community affairs
  • Pets
  • Brief description of area member lives in
  •

EMAIL IN GERMAN ANYONE
JOGGER lives in British Columbia and speaks, reads and writes German fluently. He welcomes any and all Email in German.

ON A PERSONAL NOTE
YANKEE PLUMBER, for those of you who may not be aware, will be going into the hospital for surgery this week. It is my understanding that he will be on a two months leave of absence and will probably be home for most of that time. It would be nice if he were to receive Email from his friends here in the group. Thanks in advance and I know that all of our best wishes and prayers are with him and we all wish him the speediest of recoveries.

My thanks to each of you for your efforts in making the "50+ CHAT LINE FRIENDSHIP GROUP" come together like it has. Continued success to all of us.
