Newsletter #2

THANKS TO ALL
Please let me extend my personal thanks to each of you who joined our group. Your response has really been gratifying. Looks like the group is off to an excellent start.

HELP ME TO HELP YOU
There are a couple of request that I need to make of each of you which will make it easier for me to maintain records for the group. Be patient with me on the request shown below.

  1. When you receive this, and all future letters pertaining to the group, please acknowledge by return Email.
  2. In your response, please do not use the "reply" feature. This feature repeats my entire message and the only way that I can keep a print-out of your response is to include my message which I already have in file. If you would use the "new message" feature for your response it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  3. End your message with your handle, your name and your location (just city, state, country, etc - address is not needed). This will help me considerably with both filing and planing for future events.
  4. Let me know if you have any objections about sharing your Email address with other members of the group.

YOUR SUGGESTIONS FOR THE GROUP
(submitted by various members)

FACE-TO-FACE GET TOGETHERS
Volunteers to serve as Coordinators for different areas, perhaps as outlined below:
Regional Coordinators. I.E., Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and New Mexico might be one region with one coordinator. That individual would then assist in organizing zones.
Zone Coordinators would be the contact point for group members in their zone and would solicit input from members in that zone with respect to meeting times, dates, locations, etc.
The same would apply to other countries such as Australia, Canada, England, Holland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Philippines, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, etc.

INDIVIDUAL SUGGESTIONS/OFFERS
NEWT (Sussex, New Jersey) says they have an air show there to beat all and that it is second only to Oshkosh. Just about all single engine biplane smoke and noise and downright scary aerobatic stuff. Sort of old-time barnstormer. NEWT lives so close that you can see and hear better than if you were at the field. NEWT also has a big bash and last year it included a jazz jam. NEWT would not mind hosting a convention of sorts for folks who could get to New Jersey. Great idea NEWT and thanks for the offer.
CROWN PRINCE (Cleveland, Ohio) has offered to give full access to a party room, indoor heated pool, ping-pong and billiard room, all of which could accommodate 100 persons or so. And it would be made available cost-free. Great idea CROWN PRINCE and thank you for the offer.

QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER (Email of course)
The newsletter could contain contributions from individual members in the various regions, zones, etc. It's purpose would be to keep all members informed of progress and status of events planned for their areas, etc.

COOK BOOK (Email of course)
Lots of interest and suggestions on this one, along with some fine recipes sent in by SCHNUCKIE and several others.
There were several suggestions that our cookbook be broken down into chapters with the hope that a sufficient number of member volunteers would raise their hand and offer to keep a chapter and make individual recipes available to members when requested. I would be willing to maintain a master file for back up assistance when one of the volunteers were not available. Possible chapters for our cook book are shown below:

Hors d'oeuvres
Soups
Fish
Meat
Poultry
Game
Vegetables
Salads
Sauces
Stuffings
Pasta & Rice
Eggs
Cheese
Pies & Pastries
Hot Puddings
Cold/Frozen Deserts
Cakes
Frostings
Breads/Biscuits/Scones
Cookies
Candy
Drinks/Beverages

Do keep in mind that all of this is still in the planning stage. Anyone who would like to volunteer to keep a chapter of the cook book please let me know. I suggest that the recipes be Emailed to me. I could then copy them to a 3-1/2 inch disk (back-up file) and then Email the recipes to the individual who volunteered for that chapter. Any other suggestions will be appreciated.
I just know that most of you have some recipes you would be proud (and willing) to share with the other members.

TRAVEL (Lots of interest in this area also)
JAYCE lives very close to the Mall of America in Bloomington (near St. Paul - Minneapolis), Minnesota and has offered to meet members who visit there for a chat.
I am more than willing to meet with members who visit this area of the Oregon Coast and show them around and offer recommendations on places they might like to see to make their visit here more enjoyable.
It would be great if volunteers from other areas would offer to provide info pertaining to schedule of events in their different locations which could be passed along to interested members who might be visiting their area. Information about recommended places to stay, visit and dine at in your areas would be most welcomed by any of us who might be in your area. Lots of members of our group, and their families travel a lot and this might prove to be a good opportunity for "face-to-face meetings with some of their 50+ Chat Line Friends.

HOME PAGE ON THE WEB
This suggestion was offered by several members and really sounds exciting. It would be great if we could have lots of additional input on this from all members. I have a feeling that in our midst there are several very talented individuals with the ability to construct a home page that we all would be proud of. I also have an idea for a logo for the group which might be included somewhere on this page. Please send in your offers of help and suggestions in on this. Thanks.

PROMOTION OF SCHEDULED EVENTS
CROWN PRINCE has offered to help make fliers, cards, announcements, etc, for various activities and events of the group.

This takes care of letter 2 for the group. Thanks again to each and every one of you for your participation in the group. Do keep your suggestions coming in. Don't let a good idea slip away because you felt it wasn't important enough to submit. Any idea is worthy of consideration.
Also, if you have any friends who would be interested in joining our group by all means put them in touch with me and I will be happy to send them Letters 1 and 2. Right now our number is approximately 57 or 58 and growing. The more members we have the better the group will function.
Again, to each and everyone of you, my personal thanks. Looking forward to chatting with each of you on line soon. Take care and God bless.
